| Across 6 time zones, south of the Equator and 17 hours after our departure from Los Angeles we arrived in Rio de Janeiro. After checking into our hotel which fronted on Copacabana Beach we began our exploration of Rio. What an amazing and beautiful city surrounded by rain forests, beaches, bays and mountain peaks. Founded in 1565 Rio is one of the oldest cities in the Americas. We spent our days seeing the sights at Sugarloaf, the famous Cristo Redentor statue at the top of the Corcovado mountain, shopping at the huge artisan fair near Ipanema Beach and just hanging out on the beach. Evenings we relaxed at the many outdoor cafés. |
